James is a Health Safety and Environment professional with over 10 years experience in the health and safety industry. A graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Kinesiology program, James focused his undergraduate on human kinetics, biomechanics, and ergonomics.
While attending university James worked as a student ergonomist for industrial manufacturing, nuclear power generation, and field-based road quality analysis engineering companies in the greater Toronto area.
Shortly after graduating James attained his Registered Kinesiologist designation from the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario, Canada as well as his Associate Ergonomist designation from the Association of Canadian Ergonomists and began working as an ergonomics associate for a private consulting company. During this time, James conducted hundreds of ergonomic assessments for clients in the private, municipal, and federal sectors, while also conducting half, full, and multi-day training sessions, educating workers in ergonomic awareness and industrial back and lifting safety.
Building on his education, James completed a certificate in Occupational Safety and Health, and began working for a large facility management company where he is currently employed. As the Health Safety and Environment Specialist, James is responsible for overseeing contractor, project, and operational safety, internal safety training, and compliance auditing at a federal site.
In August of 2021, James released his first self-published book, “The Pain-Free Office”, to provide a low-cost resource for workers and employers on how to set up their computer workstations to reduce pain and promote healthy postures.
Most recently, James passed the exam and has become a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals, one of the highest designations for safety professionals within Canada.
As an advocate of proactive safety and self-proclaimed “lifelong student”, James is always open to discussing and learning about the health and safety field, how we can make workplaces safer, and how he can educate and inspire others to be safe and stay healthy in the workplace or at home.
